A Brief History of b2 Rocketry and the SkyAngle...

The b2 Rocketry Company was founded by Mike and Pam Barton in late 1996 after their invention of the first SkyAngle Parachute. Tired of fooling around with lots of suspension lines and having so-called "high-quality" parachutes rip apart without cause, we set out to build a rocketry recovery device that was easy to use and dependable. Back then, flat tubular nylon was just coming on the scene as the ultimate shock cord material. We figured that it would also make superior suspension lines, especially if it was sewn in a continuous run around the outside of the canopy! Armed with a number of prototypes, extensive testing was performed at the Orangeburg, SC sod farm (home of Tripoli South Carolina and site of LDRS XVI & XIX) over many months. It was there the spinning tendency of the chute was perfected by design and the inclusion of the now famous heavy-duty swivel assembly took place. Many of the other fliers during those trials commented positively on the chutes and expressed a desire to have one for their personal use. We commissioned our first dealer in 1997 and the rest (as they say) is history.

We don’t mean to brag, but with a number of unique industry firsts to our credit, b2 Rocketry has raised the bar for parachute excellence in the sport of High-Powered Rocketry. For example, we were:

bullet

First to commercially market rocketry ‘chutes with flat woven mil-spec tubular nylon suspension lines sewn in a continuous and uninterrupted path around the outside of the canopy. Every SkyAngle made since day one has this feature. The result is superior strength and reliability, even in the event of a "worst case" deployment scenario.

bullet

First to feature a heavy-duty swivel assembly to virtually eliminate entanglement and resulting rocket damage.

bullet

First to employ a size label on the outside of the canopy for easy identification and selection.

bullet

First to include detailed, illustrated "How to Fold" instructions with every parachute.

bullet

First to secure a welded ring hardpoint at the canopy apex for optional pilot chute attachment. (CERT-3 Series)

bullet

First to subject our parachutes to rigorous testing by an independent authority on aerodynamic decelerators

We’re proud of the success that b2 Rocketry has enjoyed, and we are grateful to all the fliers and dealers out there that have helped make the SkyAngle rocketry’s mainstream premium parachute system!
